Walk of the Town

Walk of the Town is a self-guided tour of the Capital City downtown area where users can discover some of the places and people of Austin, Texas' past. The experience once started as something you could listen to on a walkman while navigating the city. We brought this experience to the modern smart phone and created an app that has the same heart as the original tour. As the motion designer on this project, I leveraged assets created in Adobe XD and brought them to life in After Effects.

The intro animation for the app. I added attention grabbing motion to this colorful design in order to add surprise and delight to a screen that might otherwise be overlooked. The buildings pop onto screen, slightly staggered in appearance, with a bit of a stretch to emphasize playfulness.

Simple map animation. On this page, the user can pick which tour they would like to take around Austin. This animation represents the physical journey that the user will go on.

Dropdown animation. When the user clicks on the tour of their choosing, the illustration expands and fades in, to give their selection more real estate on the screen. Once they confirm their choice, they are then guided to a map that provides more detail about the route. The motion on this interface engages with the user to clearly acknowledge and amplify their selection.

Here we have the visual that is displayed to accompany the audio tour: a simple audio player, with an image of a given landmark. The user can also select to view text if they'd rather read than listen. When selected, the text smoothly pops up into frame for an accessible and seamless experience.
